    Successful Family Vacations

Why do you want to go on a vacation?

What?

Is that the dumbest question you've ever heard or what?

You quickly answer with one of the following:I work hard and I earned my time offWe go on a family vacation every yearWe look forward to our break every yearVacations are fun

Suppose I told you that none of the above answers are the reason you WANT to go on vacation.

Of course you earned time off, it's nice that you and your family look forward to your family break each year and yes, your time away is supposed to be fun.

But why do you WANT to go on your family vacations -- I mean -- really?

Because once you learn the answer, you'll quickly discover that your time away will be much more fun, relaxing, you'll be making lots more fond memories and you'll actually be looking forward to your next vacation.

You spend most of your days rushing through your life in fast gear. All the "have to stuff" keeps you going so fast and so often that when you finally get to stop (or even slow down) for a few precious moments, what do you end up doing? You end up thinking about what you have to do next.

So much for relaxation.

Imagine what most of your days are really like.

You're tied to that darn clock, even if you don't have a job outside your home. Get up at a certain time, get to someplace at a certain time, get your kids up on time, get them to school, have breakfast, lunch and dinner ready on time. Only a half hour for this, an hour for that, 20 minutes for this -- Ugh!

Even your weekends are structured -- have too -- have to -- have to.

There are 365 days in a year

Family vacations are anywhere from just 5 days to maybe 2 weeks. You might take more time off, but not that much. So that means you spend 351 to 360 days each year fighting with your clock -- trying to squeeze 27 hours out of a 24 hour day.

No wonder you want to go on a vacation -- you're exhausted, worn to a frazzle, ready to just relax for a while.

You need a REAL break.

Imagine not having to care what time it is, not having a to-do list, not having to do anything.

Is that possible?

Yes!

Hooray (victory dance if you're not too tired)

You still have to pack for your family vacations -- make reservations, catch a plane, get to the cruise ship, find your hotel room, unpack and all those things -- what then?

Time to relax

Don't "over book" your precious vacation time.

Promise yourself that you'll literally stop and smell the flowers, take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the view, listen to the birds, the waves, notice the clouds, enjoy the trees. Take a nice long shower, bath or soak in the spa's hot tub -- pamper yourself. Read a good book, really have fun with your children, watch your children having fun.

Actually enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner -- taste your food, really taste and enjoy your food. Take your time and enjoy the flavors. Have a nice casual conversation over your meals.

Enjoy the atmosphere where ever you're dining.

Give yourself a break

Unwind after your day of fun -- enjoy the sunset, enjoy your evening, listen to the birds, the waves, the crackling fireplace, the sound of laughter, music and conversations.

Feel the difference?

That's why you WANT to go on your family vacations.

It's not a contest to see who can keep up. And who cares how many activities you can cram into your short 5 to 14 precious days.

How many times have you heard someone say "I need a vacation from my vacation" -- how sad is that?

You're right, you worked hard and you deserve a break, some fun time away.

Just make sure you really take a break -- a REAL break. Stop and smell the flowers, enjoy your food, the atmosphere, the beach, the mountains, the lake, your cruise -- stop and enjoy.

Make your family vacations fun and relaxing for your entire family -- you too!

Break the mold, get away from all the "have to stuff" and you'll discover that your time away will be so much more relaxing, enjoyable and just plain fun.

Have fun -- OK?

P.S.

Now -- where do you REALLY want to go? What do you REALLY want to do?
